TYPHOID FEVER

A bacterial infection through contaminated water and food as well as via the faecaloral-route.

There is a high risk of infection in Southern Africa, especially when travelling in rural areas.

(Estimate of 600.000 deaths per year worldwide due to typhoid fever!)

Cook it, peel it or leave it! Careful person-to-person contact. Vaccination is recommended for rural areas.

Fever, weakness, lethargy, loss of appetite and weight, abdominal pain, constipation (diarrhoea occurs as well, especially in the 2nd week)

Drink plenty water, treatment with antibiotics.
