YELLOW FEVER
A viral infection that is spread to the human by mosquito bites. Yellow fever mainly occurs in Central Africa.
Yellow fever vaccination is required from all travellers entering endemic areas as well as from travellers entering a Southern African country after having been to an endemic area. Speak to your healthcare professional! Reduce exposure to mosquitoes.
High fever, headache, abdominal and muscle pain, slow pulse rate, in severe cases jaundice, liver and kidney failure leading to death.
There is no specific therapy available. Most cases are self-limiting; in severe cases intensive care will be necessary.
